ok d here (the D has been get) is askin about yume nikki and I figured I would post this bit of the conversation because Why Not

well the meaning’s a lot less straightforward than .flow which really doesn’t hide the “sabi is has terminal illness and stuff” thing

however a lot of people seem to go with explanations that are more of a long-term theory (see here) on this one and I’m not sure if that really makes the mark on most of em, I would strongly lean towards the sexual assault angle on madotsuki’s character based on a number of important things

• phallic imagery (this doesn’t need explained I think)
• rave monkeys - any time these show up I kinda think “nightclub” for some reason but I mean damn there’s a lot of those
• hospital bed room, the one with the numbers on the floor
• her refusing to leave her room - fear of criticism or meeting her attacker again

I am gonna take an unconventional (?) approach and say that the effects she gains aren’t really indicative as much of her mental state as they sort of indicate some coping mechanisms that she is trying and failing at

creatures in the game, uh, I have no fuckin clue but my best guess would be twisted reworking of things she saw in childhood dreams, possibly an attempt at return to innocence/reversion to a childlike state as another coping mechanism which ALSO fails because damn the creatures are mostly really scary

as for long term vs short term - something that bugs me is that she doesn’t have a goddamn kitchen in her apartment, how is she supposed to be a long term shutin unless we go with the “dream in a dream” theory and I’d rather not

tl;dr I think yume nikki is a pretty cool guy. eh does sleaps and doesn’t afraid of anything
